One of the best pubs in London. Food is great and the pub has such a good atmosphere

Farringdon 8.00 Gamma Ray The Gunmakers is located on the western edge of Clerkenwell, not far from Exmouth Market. The nearest Tube is Farringdon, Chancery Lane is also close by. The Gunmakers was not built as a public house, but became one in the second half of the nineteenth century. It is thought that the pub’s name is a reference to a riflemaker’s workshop that operated on the premises. This pub is sort of London Boozer (exterior) meets Cocktail Bar (interior) and is compact and intimate. As you enter, you arrive into a small bar area with the servery located on the left. If you head up some steps at the back, there is a snug with a comfy banquette and a large etched mirror. There is an additional room on the first floor with a traditional fireplace and jazzy tables. At the rear of the pub is a covered courtyard beer garden which is brightly decorated with a Mexican feel. The beer selection offers six keg beers to choose from. I decided on a Gamma Ray, my pint was great but pricey at 8. If you like Tequila, there are over twenty to choose from as well as a selection of cocktails. The food menu is Mexican, the chef hails from Guadalajara in Mexico and serves up a selection of Tacos and traditional Mexican dishes. I arrived around 3.30pm on an overcast Friday afternoon in April. The pub was quiet prior to local workers descending on the pub for a post work beverage. I got talking to the team member on duty who was warm, welcoming and friendly. We had a nice chat about the pub and trade in general. As mentioned earlier, the @the_gunmakers is part boozer, part cocktail bar. I enjoyed my visit, especially the warm hospitality. This pub offers a minimal beer selection and a vast array of tequilas. If you like Mexican food, you’ll be well catered for. Nice vibes, loved the tropical beer garden, not open weekends, worth a look if you’re in the area. 19th April 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap

A real find. If you want genuine Mexican - eg. the scent of the tacos literally taking you back to when you were in Mexico 14 years ago - come here. If you are looking for genuine polite, attentive and professional service, come here. The girl/woman (sorry for describing you that way, I didn't get your name) has to have been one of the best waitresses I've had in London in years. Same goes to the chap who might have been the manager/owner. The team make you feel very welcome. Food is delicious. Good selection of cider, beers and the rose wine went down well too. I'd recommend the guacamole for the table, plus we enjoyed sharing the lamb shank. Will definitely return. Ps the 'beer garden' is under cover so good for rain, not if you plan on getting a tan.

Was a little unsure on the menu at first glance, but was very pleasantly surprised! The chicken supreme with all the Asian influences worked really well and was both pretty and full of interesting flavours! Service was good. Asked for some mayo to go with the crispy chicken skin, to which the waiter went to check with the chef. The chef made a soy based sauces she think would work better, which was highly appreciated!

There is a lovely hidden heated garden which was a nice change to enjoy the start of sunny spring. Although you often get forgotten by staff, which wasn’t an issue for us as we weren’t in any rush. The food was tasty and well made. I liked the No fish tacos and calamari the best. The churros were disappointing, as they were baked and didn’t have that yummy moreishness of normal churros. The cocktail were also mediocre. A nice chilled vibe with some good food. Great for after work socialising

Lovely place, delicious tacos and great margaritas. Not to mention wonderful service. Everything was made to order so had no trouble ordering vegan and gluten free food. Will definitely be back!

great cocktails (particularly recommend the margarita picante), good food, fantastic service, and overall very good vibes. of the food we tried, we particularly enjoyed the tuna tostada, the camarones tacos, and (much to the surprise of my carnivore husband) the mushroom tacos. a most enjoyable Friday night!
